                                                     the empty pool

                                                     rippling in the wind—

                                                     first day of school

                                                     autumn equinox

                                                     playing outside

                                                     five o’clock shadows

                                                     an armful of fall

                                                     not knowing wildflowers

                                                     from weeds

                                                     forecast for frost

                                                     lugging plants inside

                                                     to babysit

                                                     apple orchard

                                                     the tart-sweet taste

                                                     of memories

Cider lingers... inside a gallon's glass jug... summer in the snow.

__As a youngster: the taste of last summer's fruit... in winter's fridged snow and ice... such warming childhood memories!

Thank you, Doug. When we lived in Switzerland. we wold get delivered from a local apple grower, a glass bidon of cider. it had a spigit for dispensing the cider. I don't know how many liters it held, but it sat on my kitchen floor. When it was nearly empty, I went to the orchard and ordered another one.
