Tanka

a brisk autumn walk
the muddy blend of colors
deepens my mood
where are the highlights
and bright spots of  yesterday?

Tanka

 fragments of autumn
crimson, ochre and sienna
falling in silence
an early mist and fog
across this mountain valley

Tanka

                                                  scurrying leaves–
                                                  we delay our farewell
                                                  five more minutes
                                                  pushing aside thoughts
                                                  of no returns

                                                 the young man speaks
                                                 of tests and radiation;
                                                 unashamed I listen
                                                 and pray that life goes beyond
                                                 these early days of autumn

Tanka

                                    nearly winter
                                    the days pass with a quickness
                                    unheeded;
                                    there is no point to ask
                                    why I didn't pay attention

                                    along the trail
                                    a thatch of moldering leaves–
                                    the smell
                                    of old wine barrels
                                    in a dank cellar

Tanka

                                                    on a hill
Posted by Picasa                                               autumn leaves vibrate
                                                    in the sun;
                                                    so much to absorb
                                                    on any single day

                                                    fall outing–
                                                    the choices to make
                                                    gathering leaves
                                                    I try to pick the ones
                                                    that will last
