Haiku for summer

tea with a friend
the gray afternoon brightens

last book read
I fill a notebook
with doodles

Haiku for Summer

                                                                         strains of Vivaldi
the heat of the day remains
                                                                         in the stone patio

                                                                          morning chores
                                                                          pushing a broom against
                                                                          the heavy air

                                                                          heat wave
                                                                          again I learn
                                                                          to slow down

Haiku

fire-red lilies
a radiating heat
at sunset

between
the swelling sound of crickets
pressing heat

a misty beach walk
following the footprints
of gulls

Haiku

                                                     spring dawn
                                                     with the returning geese
                                                     my mind takes flight

                                                     yellow broom gone wild
                                                     the freedom to write
                                                     as I please

                                                     moonless sky–
                                                     the deep night speaks
                                                     with many voices

Haiku

                                                   summer storm
                                                   the knocking wind
                                                   finds a way inside

                                                   the heat wave broken
                                                   morning coffee sweetened
                                                   with a cool breeze

                                                   city park
                                                   pausing for the silence
                                                   of grass

Summer haiku

                                          a dry white wine-
                                         summer breezes in
                                        through an open door

                                            nothing to do...
                                           we sit and listen
                                         to the pulsing heat

                                           summer shower...
                                   the sour smell of marigolds
                                           along the path
